If you want to know the best ways to save money, you’ll find that the methods are essentially the same whether you are trying to pay off some debt or you are saving up for something special. Saving money is surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it, but if you have been making a habit of overspending or you simply have bad spending habits, you will find that you may need to rethink some of your basic spending habits. Take a look below for some great ways to get you started.

1. Bank Loyalty
When you are out, you will find that there are a number of different ATMs that you can use. Take some time, plan ahead, and use the ATMs that are affiliated with your bank. Most if not all ATMs that are not listed with your bank will add on a two to three dollar convenience charge, and some of them don’t even bother to tell you about it.

2. Drinking and Buying Don’t Mix
When you are heading out to a bar with some friends, make sure that you know how much is in your wallet and that you are comfortable with the amount that you are going to spend on alcohol. Drinks at a bar, especially if you are buying for yourself and some friends, can get very pricey, very fast, so budget before you can’t see straight!

3. Credit Card Limits
When you look at credit card limits, don’t think about what it will take to max out your credit cards, think about what you can pay off at the end of the month. When you are looking to make sure that you build up good credit, pay your bills with your credit cards. Take some time and make sure that you stay in good standing with your credit card company; you will find that credit card debt, once it starts, can snowball on you. If you can, this is one of the best ways to save money.

4. Quit Eating Out
If you are eating out more than twice a week, there is a chance that this is where your money is going. Eating out is fun, social and convenient, but it is considerably cheaper than staying in and cooking, especially when you figure in tips. Take some time and make sure that you know where you are going to be eating for the rest of the week. Learning to eat on a budget can slim down your spending a great deal!

5. Watching What You Watch
How often do you watch TV? How much do you need your cable? Plenty of us get lots of channels that we never watch and our wallets suffer for it. Take a good long look at the programming that you really enjoy and make sure that you know what you are paying for.

Remember that the best ways to save money are going to be the ones that affect you directly. This will require a change of habits, but keep in mind that after the initial shock and inconvenience, it is quite easy.
